Perhaps the film’s greatest strength is that Power Ballad isn’t just for fans of musicals. Because its songs emerge naturally from the narrative rather than interrupting it, even viewers who typically shy away from the genre are likely to find themselves enjoying this warm and engaging experience.

While asking the audience, “Is anything justified in the pursuit of fame?”, the film also explores the fine line between courage and ambition. Is the greatest obstacle standing between us and our dreams truly a lack of talent, or is it simply the fear of taking that first step? And when success is achieved through questionable choices, can it still be called success?

Danny and Rick ultimately serve as shadow versions of one another, proving that our lives are shaped by far more than our potential alone. This is precisely why I found their first meeting to be one of the film’s most affecting moments. The sincerity they share during that encounter reflects who they are at their core. Everything that follows reminds us that a single moment—or even a single mistake—can never fully define a person. We all contain countless versions of ourselves that emerge under different circumstances, and Power Ballad beautifully brings that truth to life through Danny and Rick.

Once again, John Carney reminds us that music isn’t simply something we hear—it’s something we live.
